She said, “Hello again. Now you’ve been so many places, can you remember them now? When you snuck away, I waited and the days went. You said you loved me. I knew you’d turn around” The heart always works but only how it wants to A lot like the wind He said, “It’s not like that. I asked if you’d come with me. There’s something somewhere out there I need to know. I’ve tried it for some time. And I sure won’t find it here. But please let me in. I’ve nowhere to go.” What a tangled dance ‘tween waiting and creating A lot like the wind They moved closer to the doorway The air was still, their tongues held no breath Pleading with their eyes “take me with you, don’t forget” In a house upon a hill she waited for her dowry He paced the floor and refused to vow An old storm came, the house came down around the doorway And scattered like stray branches on the ground Careful with that sigh, when it ends the moments over Love is a lot like the wind

Angel eyes staring out of a window Waving patiently That’s the way she left me So empty I can’t believe she fades away and I can’t save her now In a perfumed memory Is where she’ll always And a church bell ending Echoes through and sings to her and all the people that time paints away Afraid of remembering you and changing everything Adding sad reflections Perfuming recollections While in your terrible memory I was always as I am Now I am holding my own hands Too late to wave goodbye And I’ll ways be standing Empty in the snow of all the memories that she forgot to know
3.
Every breath, every pose Was love caught still In a moment or two Now all that I can do Is hold it in my broken heart with you Every shadow cast Needs light to last And something to cling onto There is a presence of you While my broken heart and I cast shadows too Every crying storm Has a path it knows Will end and bring on the new Maybe that is a clue What my broken heart and I must do
4.
In each lonely town with falling rain The houses wear weathervanes Holding teardrops from Memory lanes In the dust-filled hands of an autumn’s youth In the trembling hands in voting booths In the hands that wave or grip a gun to shoot Rain falls through the cracks in-between In this dizziness of freedom’s love There’s no Rainbow or a Holy Dove Yet They’re with you and me Smiling in-between
5.
Says broken trees that sway uneyed with tongues they can be lent and owned Says meadows only written of felt only never met they’re known Says lovers in the beginning of the wind Says rain with dancing steps to ears memory while was spent time it is and goes and goes and Tempts me to draw the shadows Of strangers in my clothes Even flowers their heartache exposed Says images in clouds of fallen breath that bloom in closed-eye skies and die without excepts To dancing rain on broken in lovers meadowed memories That tempt me to draw the shadows Of strangers in my clothes Even flowers their heartache exposed
6.
I need only your footsteps to follow you Where fear and confusion are in our midst When the path shows dust in the waiting I’ll be only shaken by your kiss I’ll be only shaken by your kiss When the sun is high but light is low Where the child’s been forgotten by the living If that’s where you must be than I shall go If that’s where you must be than I shall go Where oceans turn to graves and flesh to bone When the cruelest of the fingers set the stones A touch of love from you will be my home And when my hands entwine to dust And candles I have warmed are lit Don’t say a house with love there was A house with love there always is
7.
Grace spun from her movement cast gentle breeze That made the curtains waltz Alone she went and looked out of her window A dollar in the wind was all she saw How many people ponder every footstep Or diamonds of their sleep mined from within While a poet named necessity keeps calling And defines to them the dollars in the wind Worn out among the traffic lights With legs as stiff as tin Somewhere on my feeble breath sails dollars in the wind They said her head became a bag of lilies The more she loved the more she suffered here I walked under the Spanish moss and moonlight It’s not our fault she had the gift of tears Bones get so tired in their hammocks Of muscles, veins, of ligaments and skin As you walked your cradle filled with dust That blows away like dollars in the wind I’m breathing for that perfect sigh That won’t end or begin Almond eye staring at dollars in the wind Alone I went and looked out of my window The curtains swayed, the leaves fell in cursive The only instrument that’s not manmade is the human voice So sing and whisper, sigh and cry and live It’s winter now Our lady walks her tears across the bridge And as they fall our feeble breath is nothing but the wind
